Here, we share these experiences freely with Russian gym owners and investors; As you know, this is an international trade, which not only involves product value but also includes: transportation fees, import duties, VAT, freight forwarding service fees, etc. Let us introduce you one by one in the most concise language.
1. The Total Goods Value
This is the money you will pay to Haswell Fitness, it is based on how large your gym house is, Assume you (will) have a 1000 square meters gym, 700 sqm as the training area, The remaining 300 square meters will be used as changing rooms, reception rooms, shower rooms, toilets, etc.
Generally speaking, 700 square meters could load 90 ~ 100 pcs of gym equipment the below list shows
- 12 AC Motorized Treadmills
- 2 Motorless Treadmills,
- 20 PCS of spinning bikes,
- Windage resistance Airmill bikes, skimill, ab crunch machine, flip tire device, fitness ladders, windage rowing machine,

- 40 PCS of dumbells and 2 racks,
- 24 PCS weight plates and their racks,
- 18 PCS of fixed-weight barbells and their racks.

- Full TC1 line gym equipment covers 16 PCS of single cable stations and dozens of benches and racks

From the above freight cost table in April 2023, we learn two containers
- to Russia ST PETERSBURG by sea, will cost 4700+6900=11600 USD, nearly 948,880 Russian Rubles;
- to Russia Moscow by train, will cost 6400+8900=15300 USD, nearly 1,246,000 Russian Rubles;
- to Russia VLADIVOSTOK ocean port by sea, requires 2250+3900=6150 USD, nearly 500,814 Russian Rubles;
- to Russia VOSTOCHNY ocean port by sea, requires 2200+3750=5950 USD, nearly 484,528 Russian Rubles;
Now, Let’s take Moscow as the destination since it is the highest one which contains transport fee from the Russian border to the interior city, then the total CNF price will be 4,071,661 +1,246,000= 5,317,661 Russian Rubles;
3. Russia Custom & Port Fee/Tax
3.1 Import duty 15% CIF
Sorry to tell you that Russia and China have not signed the “Free Trade Agreement” till today ( June 30, 2023), the import duty of gym equipment from China to Russia is 15% based on the CIF price now.
then 5317661*0.15=797,649.15 Rubles
3.2 VAT 20%
The vat is calculated based on the sum of CIF price and import duty, google said it is 16.67%, but Yandex told us there are three levels: 0%, 10%, and 20%, we believe the low rate requires some conditions, therefore let’s ignore it, and take it as the highest 20%, Then
- (531766+797649.15)*0.2=265883.03 Rubles
If we take the value of the goods as the basement, the VAT rate is 1.15*0.2=0.23, 23% with the same basement as the Import duty, these two parts together are 38% of the value of the goods.
4. Your Local Forwarder Service Fee
You need a forwarder (shipping agent) who will help you to
- booking a shipment, we will send containers according to their indicates;
- clear customs and help you to pay the cost which happens in the ocean port, each container can incur 1K-2K US dollars in terminal charges;
- They could also help you arrange a truck to deliver the containers to your gym.
We do not know the details, but let’s take it as 2500 USD (203583 Rubles ) which contains the 2 trucks fee to your gym.
5. Conclusion

The total amount will be 1.85 times the value of goods, considering there are some factors we have not covered, for example, the handling fee for bank remittance, you may take it as 1.9~2.1 times, and please be aware this data comes from 2 containers, it will be more for LCL.
The Product Total Value occupies 3470294 / 7541955 = 53.99%, and the other costs/fees are nearly 46%.
- So the best way is to buy gym equipment from Russian manufacturers, in this way, you will save the import duty, and the shipping cost, and perhaps you can also save the VAT tax (20%) if allowed, and the forwarder fee, then total around 46% will be saved; But please note that the prerequisite is that the price you get from the Russian fitness equipment factory is the same or similar to the price you get from the Chinese fitness equipment factory.
- but if you can’t find what you want and you don’t want to pay 5 times the price for gym equipment from Europe or the United States, then ordering gym equipment from China is a wise choice.
6. What Else?
Besides how much you will pay, you should concern about how many days to finish this order also, in other words, how many days you will get the goods?
- Production: it will cost 30 ~ 45 days for gym equipment in the PDF plan, generally speaking, it will take more time if you place an order in the peak season (May to July, Sep to Nov.)
- The time from Factory to Ship date usually need 10 days
- to send products from our gym equipment factories to Ocean ports like Qingdao Port, Shanghai Port, and Lianyungang Port will only cost 2-3 days,
- But please learn that the containers should arrive at China Ocean port 7 days earlier than the estimated delivery date.
- And if the containers will be loaded on a train, they will need extra time from the factory to a train station like Manzhouli, Beijing, or others in China.
- Transit Time
- usually, be 20 days by train from China to Moscow port as we mentioned in the table;
- and only two weeks from China port to the Russian ocean ports which are nearby China’s northeast area; but will cost 5 – 20 days from east Russia to western Russia.
- and a couple of days to clear customs, let’s take it as 3 – 7 days.
- Assembly machines will cost 3 to 10 days upon how many people you have.
Minimum Total: 30+10+20+7+3 = 70 days
Maximum Total: 45+10+14+20+10 = 99 days
As you see, you should place an order around 3 months at least earlier than your gym opening date, that is a trustful answer to the question: “When should a Russia Gym Owner Place an Order with China Gym Equipment Provider?”
In addition, Russian customs may also require you to provide product parameters and detailed packaging data. We will provide Chinese or English forms, as shown in the figure below, and your freight forwarder will help you translate them into Russian according to customs requirements.
